What carpet protection does
A protector coats the fibres so liquids bead on the surface for a short time rather than soaking straight in. That gives you the chance to blot a spill before it becomes a stain. It also helps dry soil vacuum out more easily. It does not make a carpet stain-proof, and it wears off in heavy traffic areas over time.
When it is worth having
- Light coloured carpets and stairs
- Homes with children or pets
- Sofas used every day
- Rental properties after an end of tenancy clean
- Dining areas and anywhere food and drink are carried
How we apply it
Protector goes on a clean carpet, straight after the clean while the fibres are open, then is groomed in so the coverage is even. Spraying it over a dirty carpet just seals the dirt in, which is why we only apply it as part of a clean.
What goes wrong when it is applied badly
Patchy coverage leaves some areas protected and others not, so spills behave differently across the room. Over-application can leave a sticky feel. Even, measured coverage on a properly rinsed carpet is what makes it work.
Carpet protection questions
Do new carpets already have protection?
Many do from the factory, but it wears and is partly removed by cleaning. Re-applying after a clean restores it.
Is it safe for pets and children?
Once dry, protectors used by carpet cleaners are designed for use in homes. Keep pets and children off the carpet until it is fully dry.
